Abstract

The study of essential oils obtained from medicinal plants with anti-fungal activity has been attaining large perspectives and aims at obtaining active principles for a possible practical application in the treatment of infections caused by fungi. In this work, evaluations have been made of anti-fungal activity of essential oils obtained from Caryophyllus aromaticus L; Cinnamon zeilanicum; Citrus limon; Cymbopogon citratus; Eucaliptus globolus; Eugenia uniflora; Matricharia chamomilla; Peumus boldus and Ruta graveolens gainst Malassezia furfur. Such oils were tested in vitro over 20 strains isolated from patients infected with versicolor phthiriasis. The tests were carried out by the method of diffusion in solid medium, ox bile agar, and incubated at 28 at 32 ºC. According to the tests results, it was verified that the essential oils of C. citratus and P. boldus produced greater inhibiting activity against the strains of M. furfur in relation to the others.
