About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Revista Brasileira de Plantas Medicinais/Brazilian Journal of Medicinal Plants is a quarterly publication devoted to the dissemination of original articles, reviews and preliminary notes, which must be inedited, covering the broad areas of medicinal plants. Manuscripts involving clinical trials and animals must be accompanied of an authorization by the Ethics Committee of the Institution where the experiment was carried out.

Journal’s History

The Revista Brasileira de Plantas Medicinais (RBPM)/Brazilian Journal of Medicinal Plants (BJMP) (Rev Bras Plantas Med Print version ISSN 1516-0572 - On-line version ISSN 1983-084X) was launched in October 1998 (v.1, n.1) as a biannual publication until 2003, and was published three times a year in 2004 and 2005. From 2006, it became a quarterly journal. Since 2008, the Journal is also available at CAPES journals (www.periodicos.capes.gov.br) and at the portal of Summaries of Brazilian Journals, in the Multidisciplinary field. The RBPM covers the great areas of multidisciplinary study on medicinal plants, including Plant Anatomy and Morphology; Bioassays; Biotechnology; Genetic Resource Conservation; Ecophysiology; Ethnobotany; Ethnopharmacology; Pharmacognosy; Pharmacology; Plant Physiology; Phytochemistry; Plant Science; Phytotherapy; Phytopharmaceutical Technology; Toxicology; Food Technology and use of medicinal plants in Veterinary Medicine.

Ethical Guidelines

Biodiversity rights: Authors should be prepared to provide documentary evidence that approval for collection was afforded from an appropriate authority in the country of collection and, if applicable, to follow the rules concerning the biodiversity rights. Animal and Clinical studies: Studies using experimental animal needs to follow the national rules for animal use and care (Concea). Clinical studies must follow the guidelines of the Declaration of Helsinki and Tokyo for humans and have to be approved by the institutional committee.
