Author Guidelines

The Revista Brasileira de Plantas Medicinais/Brazilian Journal of Medicinal Plants publishes Original Articles, Reviews, and Short Communication, only written in English.

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Original articles: Original papers are research articles describing original experimental results. It must be structured into: Graphical Abstracts, Title, Authors, Abstract, Key words, Introduction, Material and Methods, Result and Discussion (as a single section), Acknowledgement (optional), Authors' contribution, Conflict of interest, and References. An original article includes about 3,000 words and manuscripts longer than should be exceptional and justified case before.

Reviews: Before to submit a Review, the authors are encouraged to send a brief (2 page) synopsis for their proposed article. This is so that we can consider its suitability for the journal and any potential overlap with other reviews currently expected. The main purpose of reviews is to provide a concise, accurate introduction to the subject matter and inform the reader critically of the latest developments in the field. Review articles should be designed to give an interesting insight into a hot topic in Medicinal Plants (see aim and scope), focusing on the key developments that have shaped a field rather than giving a very comprehensive overview of a very specific topic. The review should be a response to an initial question. Reviews of a particular herbal drug will be considered if they contain the newest issue and a perspective on future directions. Review should be structured into: Graphical Abstracts, Title, Authors, Abstract, Key words, Text, Acknowledgement (optional), Authors' contribution, Conflict of interest, and References. The text should be up to 20 pages excluding references.

Short Communication: This section should represent information of complementary results or even in progress, to be published quickly and will mainly cover new results. Its should be basically structured into Title, Authors, Abstract, Key words, Text, Acknowledgement (optional), Authors' contribution, Conflict of interest, and Reference (15 maximum). The text should be up to 1,500 words and Table and Figures should be up to 3.

The plant names must be check in the The Flora on Line (http://www.worldfloraonline.org/), International Plant Names Index (https://www.ipni.org), POWO (http://powo.science.kew.org), and/or Flora do Brasil (https://floradobrasil.jbrj.gov.br/consulta/).

Papers should be typed in Arial 12, double space, 2 cm margins, and the file must be save as .doc or .docx. The articles should not exceed 25 pages excluding tables, figures, and references. Chemical structure should be draw by a specific program like ChemDraw and others. The style of chemical structures is according with ACS document and has the following dimensions: chain angle: 120 degrees; 18% of length; 0.508 cm fixed length; 0.071 cm of line width; 0.021 cm of line width; 0.056 cm of margin width; 0.088 cm of hash spacing.
