Physiological and sanitary quality of Sonchus oleraceus L. seeds treated with plants extracts

Abstract

In this study, were verified the incidence of phytopathogenic fungi and the viability of aqueous extracts, with different concentrations at physiological and sanitary quality of sowthistle seeds.  Initially were made a sanity test for check the incidence of fungi in seeds. In the first experiment evaluated the effectiveness of using different aqueous extracts on the sanitary quality of the seeds and the second experiment evaluated the influence of the use of aqueous extracts on seed quality. In the first experiment, the following phytosanitary treatments were evaluated: control (untreated seeds); fungicide Vitavax Thiram® and extracts of garlic, cinnamon, cilantro, mint, wild basil, Sodom apple and noni at concentrations of 25, 50, 75 and 100% whit four replications. In this experiment, was used the “blotter test” and water restriction at -0,6 MPa. After five days of incubation at 20 °C and 12 h of photoperiod, it was quantified incidence of fungi on seeds. In the second experiment, was evaluated the influence of same extracts on the germination percentage, germination rate index, number of normal seedlings and formation of normal seedlings rate index. Seven genus of fungi associated of sowthistle seeds. The garlic extract reduced the fungal higher incidence: Alternaria sp., Cladosporium sp. and Nigrospora sp. However, this extract reduced the sowthistle seed germination.
