Abstract

Peanut seeds are especially vulnerable to fungi invasion, which is a frequent cause of the germination and vigour low indices. The seeds treatment is being used in the control of seed borne. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of the synthetic and vegetable products on the physiological quality of the peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) seeds cv. Tatu, that stored for 12 months in drought chamber. In the first experiment, there were compared the synthetic fungicide (captan and benomyl) and the garlic (Allium sativa L.) and the cinnamon (Cinnamomun zeilanicum Nees.) essential oil. There were also analyzed the solvents utilized in the oil, as well as the treatment with sodium hypochlorite and the powder products. The seeds were evaluated by germination test and vigour. It is concluded that the garlic and cinnamon oils reduce the peanut seeds germination. The garlic and cinnamon powder and captan favoured the peanut seeds germination and the vigour, as promoted the infected seedlings reduction.
