Abstract

Pfaffia tuberosa (Spreng.) Hicken, belonging to Amaranthaceae family, known as one of brazilian ginseng species, is a common medicinal plant in the Brazilian fields. The aim of this work was to develop a suitable protocol for its micropropagation, as well as to evaluate the effects of salts and macronutrients concentrations (33%, 50%, and full strength) from the MS medium on growth of P. tuberosa in vitro cultured plants. The results indicate that: (i) the disinfection of nodal segments from plants grow on ex vitro conditions depends on successive disinfection procedures with HgCl₂ at 0,1%; (ii) nodal segments from shoots collected in winter (June) show potentially less degree of fungi contamination; (iii) MS medium with basal strength macronutrient enhances seedling growth; and (iv) around 100 plants can be obtained from a single explant within 6 months.
