An experiment was carried out under greenhouse conditions to evaluate the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on growth and production of total phenols in carqueja. Plastic pots of 5 kg capacity were filled with an esteril dystrophic Yellow Latossol. The experimental design was in randomized blocks with a factorial arrangement 5x2: five microbiological treatments (Glomus clarum Nicolson & Schenck, Glomus etunicatum Becker & Gerdemann, Gigaspora margarita Becker & Hall, Acaulospora scrobiculata Trappe and control) and with and without mineral manuring, with 4 repetitions and three plants for pot. After 168 days, plants were harvested. The inoculation of the carqueja plants with the species Glomus clarum, independent of the use of chemical manuring, it provided larger production of dry weight of the aerial part and height of plants. The AMF influenced the production of total phenols significantly in the carqueja plants. The largest productions of total phenols were obtained, independently of the manuring use, in plants inoculated with the species Glomus clarum.
