Abstract

This article describes the status quo of an important quality criterion of medicinal plants commercialized in Brazil: the presence of pesticides. Twenty-three commercial samples of Passiflora spp. were analyzed using a previously validated analytical method based on supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and high- resolution gas chromatography coupled to two parallel detectors: an electron capture detector and a flame photometric detector (HRGC-ECD/FPD) to determine thirteen organochlorine (OC) and organophosphorus (OP) pesticides in Passiflora spp. (malathion, parathion-methyl, parathion- ethyl, fenitrothion, methidathion, fenthion, tetradifon, hexachlorobenzene, a-endosulfan, b- endosulfan, chlorothalonil, dieldrin and lindane). Of the total number of samples, 26% of them presented at least one of the pesticides analyzed, in concentration ranging from 21 to 71,4 ng/g.
