Due to its important properties, rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) essential oil is commonly used in industry. Aiming to the characterization of commercial samples, chemical parameters (chemical composition) as well as physico-chemical parameters (boiling range, residue on evaporation, solubility in ethanol, specific gravity, viscosity, refraction index, optical rotation) were determined. This enabled the identification and the determination of purity and quality of commercial samples when compared to a standard sample from a known origin. The results could be used to identify adulterated samples, using basically the parameters for chemical composition, residue on evaporation, and viscosity.
