Abstract

In order to evaluate the potential of formation of adventitious roots on stem cuttings of guaco (Mikania glomerata Sprengel-Asteraceae), at different developmental phases (herbaceous, softwood, semi-hardwood, and hardwood), samples from nodal regions were treated for structural studies and detection of phenolic compounds. For anatomical characterization, samples of stems were fixed in FAA and processed according to standard techniques for inclusion in glycolmetacrilate and stained with basic fucsine and astra blue. For phenolic compounds studie, samples were fixed with ferric chloride. All phases presented secondary growth and adventitious root formation from interfascicular cambium. Structural barriers that could hinder the adventitious root formation were not found. The phenolic compounds were observed in all four phases, however, in different regions of the stem. All studied phases present the potential to develope roots and originate new shoots.
