Abstract

Cissus sicyoides L. is an amazonic species and it is used to control diabetes and epileptic. A protocol for callus induction and maintenance was established for this species and can now be used for further studies on the regulation and production of secondary metabolites in vitro. To turn the callus production possible it was choose the better explant type as well as the better type and better auxin concentration. It were found the condition to maintain those callus and was specified the growth phases. The leaves from plantlets were the explants who gave better callus on MS medium supplemented with 21.9 uM of NAA in the dark, which showed yellow color and friable. The callus showed three growth phases and it was not necessary to lower sucrose concentrations to maintain callus growth.
