Identification and Characterization of two Populations of "Alfavaca" (Ocimum selloi Benth.) by Isozyme Markers

The objective of this work was to identify and to characterize the isoenzymatic variability of Ocimum selloi Benth. Two populations were studied: (a) the Nova Friburgo-RJ population and (b) the Tiradentes-MG population. The following enzymatic systems were used: esterase, acid phosphatase, glutamate dehydrogenase, glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, leucine aminopeptidase, peroxidase and shikimate dehydrogenase. They showed efficiency in identifying, characterizing and differentiating both populations, and their respective individuals. The isoenzyme distribution tor both populations of O. selloi Benth allowed them be distinguished perfectly. The isoenzymes were efficient for identification and characterization of the isoenzymatic variability of this species.
