Abstract

Homeopathy has been used in human and animal health for a long time. Application in plants is more recent, and further studies are needed. Seed germination using homeopathy is a line of research that has attracted the attention of many researchers around the world. Ocimum gratissimum is a medicinal plant with great economic potential for the use of its essential oil in drugs and cosmetics. For commercial production, research is necessary to domestication of the species that goes through several stages, beginning with the propagation of the plant. The aim this study was to evaluate the effect of homeopathic dilutions on alfavaca-cravo (O. gratissimum) seeds at controlled temperatures. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design (4 x 6) four temperatures, five dilutions of Arsenicum album and control, with four replicates each. The results obtained were significant for the application of homeopathic dilutions with positive interference, especially at unfavorable temperature (20 °C), reaching germination 166.7% higher than the control with 30CH. For the germination speed index there was no significant interaction between the factors (p ³ 0.05). The best average germination time was 3.7 days at 20–30 °C with 30CH dilution.
