Medicinal species such as Aloe vera L. present a need to optimize their in vitro culture through effective in vitro multiplication protocols, which suppress demand in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic market favoring the biological diversity of Aloe vera L. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of the sectioning of explants on Aloe vera L. submitted to in vitro multiplication. For this, axillary buds originating from Aloe vera L. plants were used as explants. To evaluate the influence of explant sectioning on in vitro multiplication, non-sectioned explants were cultured and sectioned in MS medium with 0.2 mg/l of ANA and 2.0 mg/l of BAP. The shoots were submitted to multiplication by means of three successive repetitions with interval of 30 days each. The experimental design was completely randomized and in a 3 x 2 factorial scheme (three subcultures and two types of explants), with 5 replicates per treatment, the experimental unit being represented by a vial containing three explants. The following characteristics were evaluated: plant height, number of shoots, number of green leaves, presence of senescent leaves and presence of roots. Sectioned explants combined with subcultures yielded the best number of shoots and number of green leaves responses, proving to be an efficient method for in vitro multiplication of A. vera.
